Hachiko-loyal dog

Chubu Region (Nagoya)

Hey there!
Everyone knows about the loyal dog Hachikō statue at Shibuya Station, right?
But did you know there’s also a Hachikō statue in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture?

Hachikō waited at Shibuya Station for nearly 10 years for his owner who never came back. That owner was Professor Ueno from Tokyo Imperial University (now the University of Tokyo).
And guess what? Professor Ueno was actually from Hisai in Tsu City!

In Mie, you can find the Hachikō statue right outside the east exit of Hisai Station (on the Kintetsu Nagoya Line) in a little park called “Midori no Kaze.”
There, Hachikō and Professor Ueno are facing each other. It’s such a touching scene! There’s also a plaque that tells their story and connection to the city.

It’s kind of amazing that you can meet Hachikō in Mie too.
