We just got back from a quick one-night car-camping trip to Nagoya, where our son and his family live. Driving through the city center on the Nagoya Expressway, we passed right by the skyscrapers near Nagoya Station.
名古屋へ車中泊旅してきました！
今回は息子家族が住む街、名古屋へ1泊2日のプチトリップ名古屋駅前の高層ビル群の横を抜ける名古屋高速で、市内中心部をスーッと通過️✨
Just next to that area is Sasashima Live. It’s only about a 10-minute walk from Nagoya Station and has a university, a TV station, Zepp Nagoya, the Prince Hotel, and more—but for some reason, it’s still not very popular. There is a train station on the Aonami Line, but the platform at Nagoya Station is in a weird, hard-to-reach spot. Apparently, there are plans to build an underground walkway like the one to Lucent Tower on the station’s north side. Fingers crossed!

駅から徒歩10分ほどで、大学やテレビ局、Zepp Nagoyaやプリンスホテルなどがあるのに…アクセスがちょっと不便でも地下道整備の話もあるらしいので、これからが楽しみ！爛
We also stopped by a historic tea shop, Masuhan in downtown Nagoya that’s been around since 1840! It was renovated in 2023 and now has a cozy café where you can enjoy tea-based sweets and drinks. The menu was full of tempting choices, but I went for a fancy dessert plate with five different kinds of matcha sweets. My wife got a soft dorayaki with sweet red bean paste. Both were amazing!

That night, we stayed in the car at the Gozaisho Service Area on the Higashi-meihan Expressway in Yokkaichi, Mie. The place has some fun local spots like Mokumoku Farm from Iga, Komeda Coffee’s Jerico Do, Fujitaya’s Oo-anmaki from Chiryu, and of course, Starbucks!

伊賀のもくもくファーム、コメダ珈琲のジェリコ堂☕、藤田屋の大あんまき、スタバまで…まるでグルメパーク
For breakfast the next morning, we treated ourselves to miso nikomi udon from Yamamotoya Honten—a Nagoya specialty! Thick, chewy noodles in a rich red miso broth you can hardly find outside Nagoya. So good and so satisfying.
翌朝は名古屋名物「山本屋本店」の味噌煮込みうどんで朝ごはん
赤味噌のコク＆もっちり麺、朝から大満足でした！
